Domestic Violence Education and Awareness
The social issues that Domestic Violence Education and Awareness (DVEA)
address in the Foothills community impact all levels and areas of
the community. Domestic violence, bullying, and verbal/emotional
abuse are found in our homes, schools, work places and impersonal
relationships.
One of the major areas of impact that DVEA has in the community is
on the issue of bullying prevention. For the past 10 years DVEA has
supported the Second Step Bullying Prevention Program® in CCUSD.
Second Step® is a research-based program with a pre and post-test.
All 2nd-8th graders receive 10 half hour classroom lessons which
focus on empathy, impulse control and problem solving and anger
management. This year alone, 3,632 students will benefit from
learning the skills needed to create safe environments and become
successful adults. This program wouldn’t be possible without the
donations from the Foothills Community Foundation and the community.
More information on Second Step Bullying Prevention Program® can be
found at
Comittee for Children.
