The annual Desert Foothills Christmas Pageant has been a tradition in the Cave Creek/Carefree area for over 50 years. The pageant provides a holiday celebration that blends together community volunteers, local government and Spur Cross Recreation employees. Cactus Shadows High School provides the actors for the production while local Churches lend their voices for the choir. Other volunteers take on the jobs of marketing the pageant to the community, creating the sets, lighting and arranging luminaria, bringing the animals to the production, directing traffic… even serving hot chocolate and cookies to the audience.
“It wouldn’t be Christmas in the Foothills without the pageant.”
In 2001, the Foothills communities thought that they had seen their last Christmas Pageant. For many residents, the loss of the 50 year tradition meant "it just didn't feel like Christmas".
In May of 2003, the Foothills Community Foundation brought the Pageant back to life and placed it under the care of the FCF Cultural Division. The first 50 years of the Pageant is on display during the holidays at the Cave Creek Museum.
With volunteer support from the community, this wonderful tradition has continued and is now in the 56th year. Enjoy the Season!
