Buzz Schilling has lived in the Foothills since the late 1970’s.
Previously residents of St. Paul, Minnesota, Buzz and wife Mary were helpful
in forming the new Town of Carefree. He served as one of the founding
officers of the Foothills Community Foundation and has over the years also been involved and lent support to the
Heard Museum and many other worthy community causes. A special interest in the
quality of local education led Buzz in 1990 to join Fletch Byrom to expand
the Community Education Foundation, which became the
Public Education Partnership, Inc. (PEP). PEP was created to encourage and
mobilize annual support for Cave Creek schools and Community Education
Programs. When PEP merged with the Foothills Community Foundation in
2005, Buzz agreed
once more to rejoin the FCF Board. Today, Buzz is still involved in the
community and regularly makes “Lunch Bunch” appearances. He and Mary split
their time between Carefree and Flagstaff and have four children and ten
grandchildren scattered from Anchorage, Alaska to Bethesda, Maryland giving
the Schillings excuses to get out of town and travel.
